Heart of Thieves is a Guitar/Bass/two
Voice collaboration between singer/songwriter Brian Espinoza and
singer/songwriter Saria Idana. They play sultry rock and jazzy ballads
and are expanding to include samples and electronica in their recordings.
The duo usually performs acoustic and without percussion. All recordings
are engineered by Brian at Calico
Audio.
Brian Espinoza, a Los Angeles native,
had his musical beginnings as a drummer for the ‘80’s punk band
The Cavity Creeps while wearing second hand zoot suits, making visual
art from found objects and frequenting the Mad Hatter Coffee Shop.
He now plays a wide range of instruments from piano to sitar and
enjoys arranging and composing not just songs for the band but also
scores for film. Brian has a back log of songs the size of a tidal
wave and is pleased that some of these songs have found a home in
H.O.T. His songs are known for his pulsing guitar, buttery voice
and vivid imagery of emotional and psychological landscapes.
Saria Idana, originally from New York,
first recorded as a vocalist at age 9 on an album of World Folk
Music for children. As a teenager she had a brief stint with an
Italian Circus, and while she is still an Interdisciplinary
Performaning Artist dedicated to Arts and Social Change and
is the Artistic Director of Birds
Eye Project, she always returns to music to put life into perspective.
Her music training is broad, from Flamenco to Jazz. She has a passion
for using the voice as a melodic instrument without words and has
been influenced by the Jazz Scat, Sargam Indian Music, and Middle-Eastern
styles. Her songs are usually contemplative with room for vocal
improvisation and a delicate plucking guitar style.
